With over fifteen years of experience in dance education, Alexis Arlene Andrews is a ballet educator, teacher trainer, and choreographer dedicated to cultivating excellence, artistry, and inclusivity in classical dance training. She currently serves on faculty with American Ballet Theatre, where she teaches in the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School Children’s Division and works as a Teaching Artist throughout New York City schools and community programs. She is also a teacher trainer and member of the ABT® National Training Curriculum Board of Examiners, mentoring educators and conducting certification examinations nationally.
Alexis has taught extensively throughout the New York metropolitan area and beyond, working with students ranging from early childhood through pre-professional and advanced levels. Her faculty appointments have included Frank Sinatra School of the Arts High School, New York University ABT Masters Program, Hunter College Elementary School, STEPS Academy, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Peridance Center and numerous summer intensives, outreach programs, and guest teaching engagements across the United States and internationally.
A passionate advocate for developmentally informed and culturally responsive dance education, Alexis specializes in ballet pedagogy, creative movement, pointe instruction, choreography, and curriculum design. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes technical rigor alongside creativity, musicality, confidence, and student-centered learning. Through her work in both conservatory and community settings, she strives to create environments where students feel challenged, supported, and inspired to develop both as dancers and individuals.
Alexis earned her Master of Arts in Dance Education for the Professions with a concentration in American Ballet Theatre Pedagogy from New York University. Her graduate thesis, Dancing in the New South Africa: Curriculum Design for Diversity in Ballet, explored issues of representation and inclusivity within classical ballet education. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in International Business from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, with additional international studies completed in India and France.
An ABT® Certified Teacher in the ABT National Training Curriculum Primary through Level 7, Alexis continues to contribute actively to the future of dance education through mentorship, outreach, teacher training, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her work reflects a deep belief in the transformative power of dance education to foster artistry, discipline, empathy, and community connection.
